We all know the the job search games has changed radically in the past couple of years. Several years ago companies used to advertise their postings and broadcast it as wide as they could. Candidates would then “discover” the opening and apply for the job.
Today, corporate recruiters and headhunters are using social media sites to “discover” targeted candidates. Sites like Linkedin and Twitter are just as important to recruiters as Monster and CareerBuilder. The point I want to make in the post is simple and strait forward.
BE VISIBLE
Be Visible – You have to put yourself out there online. Every company that I know off is searching online for candidates and more and more companies are using Linkedin to find targeted candidates. How will they find you if you are not there? A Linkedin profile is a good start but don’t stop there. You may want to consider starting a blog in your area of expertise, commenting on blogs in your niche, and becoming active in forums. Now might be the time to get on Twitter. I have heard mixed reviews about Twitter success in the job search. The reality is many people have found jobs on Twitter and it should be part of your job search tool kit I will be writing a post about best practices for your Twitter job search soon.
