[...] Credit reports: AB 22 prohibits employers from using employee or applicant credit reports for most purposes. Exceptions apply to certain jobs, generally limited to those which (1) are managers; (2) have access to the employer’s or clients’ money; (3) have access to personal information of others; or (4) have access to proprietary information. The law specifies that employers who request credit reports must tell the candidate or employee the specific reason the report was requested. Employers who rely on credit inquiries in hiring or promotion will need to revise their policies accordingly.Source: careercopilot.com [...]

Thanks Dan! I just love being able to help people. It seems that people need help more now than ever. We all have our own unique talents and abilities that we can contribute to making this world (and economy) a better place. If everyone gives a little, the impact can be enormous!

Follow up is everything. So many applicants do a great job upfront presenting their personal brand, but completely strike out when it comes to sending a thank you. Very few customers are sold after the first pitch--the bulk of sales happen with follow up.

Selling yourself is no different. Great post!

Lenore/Dan - I remember being in that uncomfortable position of being "put on the spot" to ask a question, but a prepared job seeker should not be "on the spot" when they're asked to ask a question. I like the three questions you have suggested because anyone can ask them - from intern to middle management all the way up to CEO. You also made a great point when you said that this is time you are interviewing the employer about the job. As a job seeker, you have to find out all you can about the positions and exceptions of the new employee because based on the answer, you can have a chance to further explain how you make a good fit.

Thanks for passing along the advice!

Hi Donna - great comment and great advice about posting responses and creating your own post. The more you put in the more you will get out. I am a big fan of the "pay it forward" movement. Please let me know if I can assist you in your search. :-)

Michael, Thanks for your comment and I love the "Fonzi" reference..not many people know the origin of "jump the shark."

I agree with what you are saying, Linkedin is an awesome tool for recruiters and job seekers. My point is that when it is sooooo easy for unqualified candidates to apply to a job, this will slow the process down for everyone not speed it up. As it is now with Monster and CareerBuilder, recruitersare sifting through hundfreds of unqualified resumes to get to the 4 or 5 that are actually qualified and good enough to present to a hiring manager. When you add in another couple hundred from Linkedin....not so good.
