The job market is still tight and it is difficult for many folks out there who are job searching. With hundreds of applicants competing for each job it is vital for job seekers to find a way to stand apart from the crowd. Here are three things for you to bring with you to the interview that will make you irresistible to the Hiring Manger.
What can you bring to the table? If you are not able to articulate your value propisition to the employer then you will not get the job. Anyone can say they can do this or that but it is the candidate who can provide solid examples and case studies of their impact that will win the job. Results matter!
Take time to research the company, the position, the people and anything else that will provide you an edge. It is not enough to simply read the website and the latest press releases, every candidate does that. Dig deeper! When I counsel candidates to get them prepared for the interview I suggest that they take a look at the annual reports and search for videos of the CEO or other executives from the company. It is amazing what you can learn about the current state and future direction of the company if you listen to them speak in front an audience. Another idea is to talk to people who currently work at the company you are interviewing for. Linkedin is a great tool for this, even if you are not connected to anyone from that company I am willing to bet that one of your connections is.
You are almost there – you have proven your value, researched your target, now you need to bring it home. The best way to do this is to show them ENERGY. Enthusiasm and Excitement go a long way during an interview. Hiring Managers want to hire people that are excited to join the company and join the team. All things equal, it is the candidate that is the most interested and excited that will land the job.
All your views are valuable. Every manager want the person who work with him is confident and willing to work with his company. And excited to join the company and join the team. so when ever you go to give for an interview these all things keep in mind it will help you to grab the job.
Hi Dan,
Seems simple enough, right? But the truth is that the most basic truths of preparing for an interview are the most important. It’s just that simple. The problem is, job seekers worry too much about how their resume is formated or the type of paper they use for their resume. Begin energized for the interview and researching the company and position sounds so simple, but not enough job seekers are preparing to do that for interviews. Going in excited about the position you are interviewing for can go a very long way to the HR Department and Hiring Managers.
Great advice!

Great advice! I agree with it. I would like to add that I think being creative helps. In fact, I believe you can make serious points by thinking outside-the-box of conventional wisdom.
I recommend enticing employers to “come to you” rather than you going to look for them. Rather than arbitrarily sending paper resumes’ that may end up being trashed for lack of ridiculous keywords, put your resume’ online and showcase all that you are via multimedia Squidoo modules. Entice the prospective employer’s decision-maker to visit the Squidoo site and learn about you on YOUR TERMS…not his.
Remember, your goal is NOT to get your resume’ into a file drawer. Your goal is to get YOUR TRUE VALUE into the mind of the decision-maker.
